We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our father John Owen Muldoon. John died peacefully and comfortably on May 7,2024 surrounded by his family at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida. John was 88 years old and passed of natural causes. It was his time.
John (or Jack) was born September 9,1935 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to parents, John Norbert and Lucille Owen Muldoon. John began his robust education at Riverdale School, a laboratory school on the campus of St. Cloud State University on the banks of the Mississippi River. Here he fell in love with literature. He would often boast to his grandchildren that he had read at least 100,000 books. He passed on his love of reading to his children and grandchildren. He would pick up his granddaughters every Tuesday from school and either take them to the public library or the bookstore.
Shortly after graduating from St. Cloud Tech High School, he married the love of his life Mary Ann (Micky) Bialka. Together they began their training as educators and teachers while starting their family. John went on to receive his masters and doctorate degree in Educational Administration. He was a strong advocate for public education and believed in ensuring that all children had access to quality education. John had a long and powerful career. He started as a teacher and guidance counselor and moved into administration as a principal of an inner city Junior High School. He ended his career in Tallahassee, Florida as a high administrator for Leon County Schools. He spent his life fighting for kids.
John left behind his daughter, Lynn, and two sons, Jeff and Kelly, who will miss him terribly. John’s biggest joy were his grandchildren, Patrick and Molly Muldoon, Ryan and Andrew Muldoon, Abigail and Madelyn Luther, and his grandchildren, Peighton and Hudson Muldoon. John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; sons, John M. and Mark A; sister, Mary Cady; mother, Lucille; and father, John N Muldoon.
John very much loved his summer cabin on Big Sandy Lake in McGregor, Minnesota where his family has been gathering for stories, recreation, fishing, and occasional card games for over 50 years and the tradition will continue for years to come.
John Owen Muldoon will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those individuals who knew him and those whose life he touched.
His funeral will be a private graveside service at the National Cemetery and a memorial service at his summer home in Minnesota. Time and day to be announced later date.
