Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Chartis MacNichol Kilpatrick Stroman, Sr.; his mother, Maude Rebecca Conklin Stroman; his brother Chart, Jr.; and sister, Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; his daughters, Crystal Lee Stroman Stallings (LP) and Yanli Wang; grandchildren, Meghan Stallings-Cooksey (Charlie), Christine Stallings, JD Keller and Zhen Zhen Zhou/Feng (Jason); and his great grandchildren. He was followed in death on May 29, 2023, by his son, John David Stroman.
Jack met his wife, Vivian, in Cape May, New Jersey while holding services at her church. They married June 27, 1953. This June they would have been married 70 years.
He was ordained as Elder in the United Methodist Church on September 24, 1961. His service to the Lord continued as a pastor serving multiple appointments in the New Jersey and Florida Conferences. During his 40 years of service in The United Methodist Church he spent time writing 6 books, actively took part in mission trips, and teaching. After his retirement, he was given the honor of teaching at the Methodist Seminary in Accra, Ghana, West Africa.
When time allowed, Jack enjoyed running, reading, playing racquetball, and softball where he was humorously nicknamed “Flash” due to his lack of speed when running the bases. He was also proud of his distinction as a Master Gardener and took great pride in his yard everywhere he went. He was active as a Chaplain at Big Bend Hospice and volunteered for Kairos Prison Ministries. Of course, last but certainly not least he was a Florida State Seminole fan. Not just baseball, which he loved and attended games for over 25 years, he also enjoyed watching football and the girls play softball. In the last few years his beloved activity was reading and riding his Schwinn stationary bike.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 2 pm in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church, Tallahassee, Florida. In lieu of flowers we would like to ask that donations be sent to the United Methodist Children’s Home and Big Bend Hospice. For those who are not able to attend the service will stream on YouTube, FaceBook, and also can be accessed from the church’s website.
