

Joseph Hurrey Webb, 90, died on May 13, 2016, in Tallahassee, FL. Joe was the son of the late William Clyde and Jennie Wren Webb of Quitman, Mississippi. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and subsequently graduated from Mississippi State University and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was the State Director of Campus Ministries for the Florida Baptist Convention for many years. In recognition of his service, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree by Stetson University.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Hawkins Webb and siblings, Willie Gene Traweek, Clyde Webb and James Webb.
Joe is survived by his two children: Jeanne Webb Hancock (Donald), Kathy Webb Waller (Terry); his eight grandchildren: Justin Hancock (Megan), Charles Hancock, Laura Hancock, Matthew Waller (Carrie), Melissa Benes (Jamie), Marcelina Waller, Margarita Valdez (Matt), Marilu Waller; and his 4 great-grandchildren; Nathaniel, Patrick and Ethan Hancock and Odette Vazquez.
A celebration of Joe’s life and service will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation to start at 11:00 a.m. at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church
4001 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32207-6321. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church’s Mission Fund.
