Born on January 23, 1940, to Thomas and Ethel Golden, Joyce was the youngest of five children. She grew up in Tallahassee and attended Florida High. She met the love of her life, Maurice Hartsfield, while in high school, and they married soon after she graduated. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2017.
Joyce dedicated many years of service to the Florida Department of Revenue, where she formed treasured lifelong friendships before her retirement. She loved reading and cheering on the Florida State Seminoles, and she cherished time spent with her family and close friends. Being “Mimi” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was one of her greatest joys in life.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice; her brothers, Thomas “Odell” Golden and Wendell Golden; and her sisters, Doris Burgess and Mary Gamber. Though her passing leaves a profound void, Joyce’s legacy of love will continue to live on through her family.
She is survived by her son, Rick Hartsfield (Gina) of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Jessica Erickson (Tyler) of Benton, Louisiana, and Graham Hartsfield (Kelsi) of Tallahassee; great grandchildren, Jackson Hartsfield and James Hartsfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In honor of her wishes, a private service will be held on May 12, 2026, in Tallahassee.
