Juanita Hobbs Simmons

Mrs. Simmons was born in Hobbsville in Gates County, NC and was the daughter of the late Junius and Lillie Hobbs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in September 2013, James D. Simmons, by her sisters Doris and Dorothy and by her brothers James and Weldon.

A graduate of Hobbsville High School, she attended the Raleigh Business School. And while in Raleigh she met her future husband. They were married on January 4, 1946 at the age of 18. She spent her life as a homemaker and mother and as an administrative assistant in various positions wherever she lived and eventually at Leon High School in Tallahassee. She was a long time member of East Hill Baptist Church also in Tallahassee.

She is survived by two sons: Stephen Simmons (Beverly) and Barry Simmons (Jamie Remacle); and three grandchildren: Brian Simmons, Brittany Johnson (Lloyd “Austin”) and Elizabeth Montague (Shane).

No formal services will be held. Interment will be at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home & Memorial Park at 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL.
