Born February 2, 1944, in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Robert Henry Maybin and Dorothy Smith Maybin, Larry moved with his family to Tallahassee at age two and remained a lifelong resident. He graduated from Leon High School in 1962 and Florida State University in 1966, served in the United States Army, and thereafter built a varied and entrepreneurial career, first as a CPA and then as a stockbroker, before establishing a data processing and IT consulting firm, where he remained active well into his seventies.
Larry was kind, generous, adventurous, and forever curious, bringing a playful spirit of fun to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Shiver Maybin (1948–2018).
He is survived by his son, Jonathan Edward Maybin; his daughter, Virginia Maybin Saleeby, and her husband, Steve; grandchildren Rayya and James Saleeby; brothers Joseph F. Maybin and Robert L. Maybin; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at eleven o'clock in the morning at Killearn Methodist Church in Tallahassee.
