Leland Edward “Ed” Jefferies, Jr. went home to Jesus on October 1, 2022 at the age of 91. Ed was born to Helen and Leland Edward Jefferies, Sr. in Winter Haven, Florida. His childhood home was Bradenton, Florida. He graduated from Georgia Tech University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and later received a master’s degree in the same field from Florida Institute of Technology. He served in the United States Army as a second lieutenant.
Ed married Kay Hoyle Fulghum in October 1953. Ed and Kay lived most of their married life in Melbourne, Florida, where they raised their 3 children. They were long time members of First United Methodist church in Melbourne. Ed and Kay moved to Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee in 2013.
From the 1950’s to the 1990’s, Ed worked at the Tech Lab at Patrick Air Force Base on projects during the early and formative years of the NASA Space Program.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Kay, his parents and brother, John Jefferies. He is survived by his children Susan (Mike) of Tallahassee, Cynthia (Bill) of Palm City, and Ben (Reagan) of Melbourne, his sister Louise Allerton of Clemson, SC., seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd., Tallahassee on November 5 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s name to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital. Ed, along with Kay will be laid to rest at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.
