Marcia Mohler Eggers, a 28 year breast cancer survivor, died on January 4, 2018 after a three month battle with pancreatic cancer. Marcia was born in Meadeville, Pennsylvania in 1938, the only child of Fred and Lorraine Mohler. She moved with her parents in 1954 to St. Petersburg, Florida and graduated from Boca Ciega High School, after which she attended Florida State University.
Marcia raised her 3 children in Orlando where she was an active participant and volunteer in all of their activities both in-school and in extra-curricula pursuits. As her children were growing up the family spent many happy summers in their home in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Always a flower lover, she was also active in the local Garden Club. While still in Orlando, Marcia, a talented crafts-person with a flair for decorating, started a small business creating and marketing accessories for the home.
In 1978 she moved to Tallahassee where she enjoyed being employed outside the home. She was a fabulous cook, an avid reader, and a collector of books. For years she knit lovely gifts for family and friends and was a prolific provider of warm scarves for servicemen stationed far away from home in cold climates. Marcia was an animal lover and a rescuer of homeless dogs. She opened her home and her heart to many furry friends that brought her great joy over the years. She was especially fond of the bichon frise breed.
Marcia was predeceased by her parents and her infant granddaughter, Georgia Dougherty. Surviving are her beloved children: Rick Eggers of Tallahassee, Kristi Hamilton of Adelaide, Australia, and her cherished daughter and loving caregiver, Mari Eggers Marcanio (Steve) of Gulf Breeze. Also left to mourn her are Mari’s children: Matthew and Myles Harvey of Pensacola, and Mallory Hinton (Brandon) and her children: Colton and Aubri of Gulf Breeze, and Kristi’s sons: Kristopher Dougherty and Conner Austin of Adelaide. Included as mourners are good friends Gail and Ron McGuire, Carol Parker, and Amber Mitchell, and many others.
A private memorial will be scheduled at a later date. The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the David Bernstein Center for Pancreatic Cancer, Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Box 20, 1275 York Avenue, N.Y., N.Y 10065 or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Tallahassee, FL 32308.
Please remember Marcia with a smile on your face and love in your heart.
