

She was born in Lansing, Michigan, on May 20, 1922. She moved to Bradenton, FL in 1934. Her parents Charles H. and Margaret Simpson Doolittle owned and operated Doolittle Hardware in Bradenton. She was the news editor for Bradenton High School newspaper. After graduating from high school she attended Florida State College for Women for two years majoring in journalism. She married James J. Dennard on February 6, 1943. They were married for 30 years. She married her second husband, Herbert R. Briscoe on July 26, 1977. Over the years she worked at the Maritime Base in St. Petersburg, the Senate in Tallahassee, and Department of Transportation. She retired from the DOT in 1984. Margaret enjoyed life, she always had a cheerful attitude, even after becoming legally blind she continued to live in her own home and with help from friendly taxi service she walked in the mall several days a week where she made many friends due to her friendly nature.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. and Margaret M. (Simpson) Doolittle; her first husband, James J. Dennard; second husband, Herbert R. Briscoe; and sister, Gertrude Hayes.
She is survived by her two children, Chris Dennard (Elizabeth) from Valrico and Patti Dennard Hale from Jacksonville; her two grandchildren, Aryn (Mark) and Ryan; two great grandchildren, Peyton and Parker from Jacksonville; and one brother, John Doolittle (Sue) of Bradenton.
The family is grateful to her nephew Frank Dennard, “adopted son”, along with his wife Frances, for the years of assisting her in many ways. Also, the family is indebted to Margaret’s special friend, Brenda Douglas, for the loving care she gave over the past four years. Margaret will be missed by her family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May1, 2012 at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the military veteran’s charity of your choice.
