Mary Louise McKinney "MaMa" Hightower

Mary M. Hightower, known to her family as MaMa, died on September 21 at her home in Tallahassee.

She was born Mary Louise McKinney on April 18, 1925 to the late Robert Graves McKinney and Edris Lowe McKinney in Campti, Louisiana. She was the wife of the late William N. Hightower, Jr. The Hightowers moved to Tallahassee in 1961.

Mary was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and St. Catherine's Circle. Mary was one of the original adorers of Perpetual Adoration at Blessed Sacrament. She loved playing golf and was a member of Lady Links, Hilaman Golf Club, Swinging Seniors, and Big Bend League. Mary also loved her dolls, and was a member of Tallahassee Doll Club. Mary had been a member of Tallahassee Garden Club, Candytuft Circle.

She is survived by her four children, William N. Hightower III (and wife Anne), Martha Hightower Clements (and husband Larry), Edwin L. Hightower (and wife Debbie), all of Tallahassee, and Lou Hightower (and husband Bob Dick) of Atlanta; four grandchildren, John Hightower, Amanda Clements (and husband Bruce McCullough), Nancy Witter (and husband Patrick), all of Tallahassee, and Colin Hightower (and wife Kristen) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; three great-grandchildren, Hampton Louise McCullough, Berkley Lowe McCullough and Shelby Katherine Witter, all of Tallahassee; and many neices and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers whose care allowed Mrs. Hightower to remain in her home until her passing.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 26 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel (850-893-4177), followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (624 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308) or to the March of Dimes (1990 Village Green Way, Suite 3, Tallahassee, FL 32308).
