

Maurice Ardell Barineau died on November 15, 2015. He was born November 15, 1924, in Tallahassee, FL to Pryor Lewis Barineau and Sarah Rachel Ward Barineau (both deceased). He was predeceased by his brothers, Malcolm Lewis Barineau (Lillian) and Pryor Lewis Barineau Jr. (Gladys). He is survived by his sister Doris Barineau Rawls.
He was married to Lera Nell Johnson on November 26, 1946. They were pleased to have two children, Brenda Kay Barineau and Roy Maurice Barineau; two grandchildren, Joshua Guy Selfe (Amy) and Jennifer Kay Selfe Tedder (Brandon); and three great grandchildren, Nicholas Guy Selfe, Lauren Ansley Selfe, and Caleb Curtis Tedder.
Maurice graduated from Leon High School in 1942 and worked as an outside welder at a United States Naval shipyard in Panama City for almost a year. He entered the United States Army in 1943, and after basic training at Camp Blanding, he was sent to England to join the 29th Infantry Division. He fought in Normandy, France where he earned a Bronze Star for bravery beyond the call of duty. After World War II, he enrolled in the Tallahassee Branch of the University of Florida which, in 1947, merged with the Florida State College of Women to form The Florida State University. He majored in accounting and graduated, in 1949, in the first class of the Florida State University. He worked as Assistant Business Manager at The Florida State University; and, after he passed the Certified Public Accounting (C.P.A.) exam, he entered the field of public accounting with James D. A. Holley and Co. After ten years with James D. A. Holley and Co., he and Wallis Walker, Sr., founded an accounting firm of their own. After many years of growth, the firm merged with Ernst and Young, and Maurice retired with thirty-five years in public accounting.
Maurice was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and helped start Parkway Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He later joined First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, as a member of the Finance Committee, and as Chairman of the Bond Committee. He was a member at First Baptist Church for over fifty years.
Maurice enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed playing golf. As a golfer, he shot his age or better on numerous occasions and was pleased to embark on semiannual trips with three close friends: Tom Perrin, Bill Gardner, and Bob Butler.
The Barineau family will receive friends Wednesday November 18, for visitation at 1pm at Frist Baptist Church of Tallahassee and the service will follow at 2pm.
