Maxine Justen Williams

Maxine was born in Tampa, Florida, the youngest of four children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Matthew Drew Williams, Jr. They raised their three children in Miami, Florida before retiring to Tallahassee in 1985. Maxine was a dedicated wife and mother who devoted herself to her family. She was a wonderful cook and her children and grandchildren loved gathering around her table. She was also an accomplished seamstress who sewed beautiful dresses for her granddaughters.

Maxine is survived by her sons, Dr. Dennis E. Williams (Dr. Barbara), Brian E. Williams, and daughter, Gail W. Steed (Richard). Her beloved grandchildren are Erica Cummings, Natalie Williams, Bradley Williams, Chelsea Steed, and Kristen Williams. Landon Cummings and Claire Cummings are her great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Broadview Assisted Living and Big Bend Hospice, as well as her friends from John Wesley United Methodist Church. Her caregivers Faye Newby, Hattie Murphy, Diane Gray, Lillie Mashburn, and Fran Cook attended to her every need with love and compassion.

A private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Maxine’s name to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1331 E. Sixth Avenue, Tallahassee, FL, 32303.
