As a Panama City native, he graduated from Bay High & attended Gulf Coast graduating from TCC. He married Doris Simpson in 1966 & they traveled the Southeast due to his retail occupation. During this time, they made many life-time friends. Their survival of Hurricane Camille while in Biloxi was an indelible part of their life changing experiences.
Upon returning to Tallahassee, he began a career in law enforcement with LCSO. Before his retirement as Sgt. of Crime Prevention, he enjoyed teaching classes at schools/State & County Agencies/clubs/churches & businesses. He served on many City, County & State Committees/Boards bringing about positive changes between community & law enforcement.
Mr. Davie also served his country in the U.S. Army & Army Reserves during the Viet Nam era from 1965-1971. Until health issues deterred him, he enjoyed being active in The Shriners, Jackson Lodge #1, Scottish Rites, & men’s church activities.
Mr. Davie was a former member of First Baptist Church of Panama City, Oak City Assembly A/G, & member of Evangel A/G until his death.
He is survived by his wife of (55 yrs), Doris; sons-Scott (Shelly) of Cairo, Ga. & Keith (April) of Tallahassee; granddaughters- Morgan (Jordan) Chunn & Madison Davie of Troy, AL; Grandsons- Caleb & Luke Davie; Great Grandchildren- Emmitt & Mila Jo Chunn; brother- Charles (Marti) of GA, Aunt- Mary Leslie Scoggins of Panama City, sisters-in-law; Kaye (Cal) Bender, of Tallahassee, FL, Alda (Bill) Cooper of AL, Kathy (Mike) Maiocco of TN, brother-in-law; Buddy Simpson of Tallahassee, as well as a host of beloved family members.
He was preceded in death by three precious infants, parents- Lewis & Juanita Davie, brother- William Davie, father-in-law Alvin Simpson, & mother-in-law Eunice Simpson, brother-in-law- David Hurst & sister-in-law, Faye Hurst.
Rex will be greatly missed by his family, friends, & beloved black Lab who helped him enjoy life.
