He was raised in a large Chicago orphanage from fourth grade through high school; enlisted in the Air Force, and commissioned upon completing Aviation Cadet training. As a pilot during the Vietnam War, he flew over 1,000 combat hours and his awards included the Distinguished Flying Cross and fourteen Air Medals.
Upon completion of 22 years of military service, Bob obtained a Bachelor Degree in Accounting and worked 22 years as an auditor for the Federal Department of Health and Human Services. During his services, he received a plaque for Special Achievements.
