

Roy Harold Emil Erickson, 98, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on July 8, 2015. Born on May 13, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the youngest and last surviving child of Emil and Hulda Erickson, who immigrated to the US from Sweden in 1902. Roy served from May 1941 - November 1945 in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Western Pacific. Upon his return from the war, he met and married the love of his life, Margene Anderson. They resided in Chicago where he took over running the family’s wholesale meat market. Roy and Margene moved to New Port Richey, Florida, in 1973, later moving to Springhill, Florida and then on to Tallahassee, Florida to be with family.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margene; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Erickson; brother, Oscar Erickson; two sisters, Grace Rehnquist and Ester Cedar; and son, Roy Harold Erickson, Jr. He is survived by two sons, Dennis Erickson and his wife, Roxanne; Paul Erickson and his wife, Glenda; daughter-in-law, Pamela Erickson; six grandchildren, Roy III and wife Amber, Elin, Dennis and his wife Elizabeth, Russell and his wife Nicole, Paul Jr. and his wife Jessica, Shawn and his wife Jennifer, five great grandchildren Lance, Drew, Nicholas, Jakob, and Elise.
He was a loving uncle to nieces, Susan Bohner, Joanie Barram, Barbara Jensen, Gail Johnson, Nancy and Jerry Sue. He was a great man, a devoted husband and father. He loved his family and friends. He was very giving of himself. He loved to help others and especially loved to laugh and make others laugh. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, July 19th, 2015, at 4:00 p.m., at The Women’s Club of Tallahassee, located at 1513 Christobal Drive, Tallahassee, Florida. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Alzheimer’s Project of Tallahassee www.alzheimersproject.org or Big Bend Hospice www.bigbendhospice.org.
