He received his B.S. from Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee; M.S. from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton , Florida and- Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University, Davie, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Dr. Jerutha W. Ford, Ed. D. (Retired (42 years) Broward County School Administrator). Two Children: Monica P. Ford-Green, Samuel Scott-Ford (Donna – deceased). Four Grandchildren: Alana D. Morgan, (Dr. Theodore, II), Dr. Jason A. Ford-Green, (Alexis), Stephen P. Ford-Green (Tabitha), Samuel G. Nichols. Ten Great Grandchildren: Mia J. Ford-Green, Desmond I. Ford-Green, Theodore M. Morgan, III, Isaiah S. Ford-Green, Gianni P. Ford-Green, Sydney M. Ford-Green, Christopher A. Morgan, Kori J. Ford-Green, Remington T. Morgan, Riley A. Ford-Green (due 04/27/16).
Other family includes, one brother, the late Frank Pearson; one Cousin, Albert Lee (Christine). Three Sisters-in-Law: Joyce Kennedy, Mary Jean (Willie) Brown, Rosa (Carlton - deceased). Three Brothers-in-law: Dr. Gilbert Williams (Evelyn), David Williams (Althea), and Samuel Williams (Alyce) and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He proudly served his country for 2 years as US Army Sgt. He retired in 1995 after serving 43 years with the Broward County Public School System. Positions held include Band Director, Social Worker, Middle & High School Administrator and Assistant to the South Area Superintendent (last position held).
His community involvement included the role of usher at Saint George Catholic Church, then membership at Saint Malachy, Good Shepherd, and Co-Cathedral of Saint Thomas More. A life-member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the last surviving Charter member of the Broward County Chapter. He participated as a member of the Tallahassee Chapter until his health began to fail. TSU Alumni Association - Life Member, Broward County Chapter. As well as a member, Tennessee State Collegians: Marching & Symphonic Bands; where they were honored for their April 9, 1949 performance at Carnegie Hall.
Other honors include State of Florida Ombudsman - Governor Appointed. North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners - Governor Appointed (1st African-American), and State of Florida Mental Health Board of Commissioners -Governor Appointed. His accomplishments included Licensed Insurance Agent and licensed Real Estate Associate/Agent.
On Tuesday, March 29th, Dr. Ford passed away peacefully in his sleep at Tallahassee’s Big Bend Hospice House. *Because of his love for music and students, In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in memory of Dr. Ford to either the FAMU Music Department (0119) through the FAMU Foundation, or, to the Tallahassee Boys’ Choir at their respective websites.
