

Waldie Alfred Anderson, 81, of Tallahassee, FL and Interlochen, MI, died unexpectedly Sunday May 22, 2011 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Waldie was born on February 5, 1930 in Aberdeen, WA, the son of Alfred and Waldina (Asplund) Liljekvist Anderson. He graduated from Aberdeen High School, earned a bachelors degree from Central Washington University, a Masters degree from the University of Michigan, and did doctoral studies at the University of Michigan. Waldie was a professional tenor, bassoonist, and conductor. He taught music at Davenport (IA) High School, the Interlochen Center for the Arts, University of Texas, Florida State University, the University of Michigan, and Michigan State University. He had many interests. He coached baseball, was an official for soccer and softball, was a frequent tenor soloist worldwide, and founded the Big Bend Community Orchestra and the Artist Series of Tallahassee. Waldie was Tallahassee’s Volunteer of the Year in the Arts in 1995.
He leaves his wife of 27 years, Carolyn Bridger; son Waldie Reed (Diana) Anderson of Sylvania, OH; son Paul (Sherry) Anderson of Los Alamos, NM; two grandsons, Max and Ian Anderson of Sylvania, OH; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Waldie was predeceased by one son, Erik Anderson .
A memorial celebration will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church 120 Park Ave. West on Thursday, May 26 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Artist Series of Tallahassee, 1897 Capital Circle NE #204, Tallahassee, FL 32308-4458.
