

Walt was born March 2, 1922, the son of Mr. & Mrs. James Young. Walt is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Forsberg. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard and Robert; his sister Jane and his son-in-law, Arthur Lawry.
Walt served in the United States Army Air Corps. in the Pacific during World War II. After his service to his country, he received a B.S. degree from Niagara University, 1949; a M.S. degree from Barry University, 1957; a Ed.D from the University of Miami, 1965; and an honorary LL.D from Barry University, in 1982.
Walt served on the Pembroke Pines City Council from 1962-1964. After a long career in education as a teacher, principal and an administrator with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Walt was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1972 and served ten consecutive terms until his retirement in 1992.
In appreciation of Walt’s efforts in the field of education, the City of Pembroke Pines and the State of Florida dedicated the Walter C. Young Middle School and Resource Center in his honor in 1991.
In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his daughters, Nancy, Jane and Dottie; three grandsons, and their spouses; two granddaughters, two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel at 11am on Saturday, August 13, 2016.
