

William Frederick James (“Bill”), 66, a resident of Tallahassee, FL, passed away at TMH on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Bill was born on June 3, 1949 in Cleveland, OH and was the youngest son of the late Norman Leslie James and Sara Louise James. Bill grew up in West Palm Beach, FL, where he graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1967. Bill attended Princeton University as a National Merit Scholar where he studied Mathematics and Economics and continued advanced studies at Florida State University.
Bill worked for the State of Florida as an Economist and Investment Officer for more than 32 years. He retired from the Florida State Board of Administration in 2005 as the Senior Investment Officer of Alternative Investments. Bill enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Cindy, classic rock music, bowling, golf, hiking, white water rafting, FSU sports, and his beloved dachshund, Nikita.
Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Carol Lyle. He leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years Cynthia Taylor James; two daughters, Kari (Alan) Ferguson of Jacksonville and Kimberley (Greg) Nichols of Tallahassee; 5 grandchildren, Garrett Blanton, Jr., Megan Blanton, Tucker Ferguson, Anna Ferguson and Sara Ferguson; two step-grandchildren, Lindsey and Lauren Nichols; one brother, Robert James; mother-in-law, Lois Taylor, two sisters-in-law, Vicki (Jeff) Beiter and Kristi (Don) Sherman; and nieces and nephews, James (Beth) Lyle, Ashley (Darrell) James, Matthew (Lorena) James, Clint (Christina) Beiter, Beth (Jason) Bell, Alex Sherman, and Brooke Sherman. A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home at 1737 Riggins Road with the Celebration of Life beginning at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders.
