

William C. Neel (“Bill”), 86, a Corrections professional with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the State of Florida, and lifetime Tallahassee resident, passed away at home on Thursday, March 7, 2024, seven years after suffering a stroke during surgery. Bill was born to William Perry Neel and Bronnie (Duggar) Neel on November 17, 1937. He was an Eagle Scout (Order of the Arrow) who served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 26 years, retiring as a Major. He also played baseball and loved the outdoors, especially hiking mountain trails and enjoying ocean cruises. Bill proudly graduated from Leon High School (’55) and Florida State University (’59), where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Sandra (Rhodes) Neel. He is survived by his wife of five years (Lynn Neel); sister Peggy (Pat) Duncan (Wilmington, NC), cousin Larry (Sharon) Bates (Winter Haven, FL), children Brian (Kay) Neel (Philadelphia, PA), Charles (Jill) Neel (Orlando, FL), Kara (Mike) Kempf (Pensacola, FL), five grandchildren and two nieces. Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home Riggins Road Chapel, followed by a brief service at 2pm and then inurnment with military honors at Oakland Cemetery at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice.
