

The family of William Hal Reed announces with great sadness Bill’s passing December 16, 2021. Bill was born August 14, 1937, in Rome, Georgia to Herman Edgar Reed and Sarah Opal Marsh Reed. He grew up in Green Cove Springs, Florida attending Clay County High School. After graduation in 1955, Bill completed The Jones School of Business in Jacksonville, and moved to Tallahassee for work with the Florida Insurance Commission. Shortly thereafter, Bill met Wilma Katherine Wright. The two were married in 1962 and enjoyed 59 years of marriage, during which they reared their three children, Hal, Marsha, and Ed.
Bill worked his entire career with the State of Florida, Department of Insurance, retiring in 2004. He was always very proud of his service to the citizens of this great State.
In addition to his professional career, Bill enjoyed many years participating in community activities including Tallahassee Jaycees, Springtime Tallahassee, and DeMolay. Bill was a member of Cabul Masonic Lodge in Green Cove Springs, Scottish Rite, and Marzuq Shrine Temple in Tallahassee.
Bill is predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law, Harold Williams. He is survived by his wife Wilma; his sisters, Lilly Jean Williams and Margaret Joyce with her husband, Jimmy Williams; his three children and their spouses, Hal Reed (Jennifer), Marsha Gillespie (David), and Ed Reed (Jen); grandchildren, Heather Willard Simmons (Ryan); Sarah Gillespie Rice (Josh); Hunter Gillespie Caswell (Ethan); Jackson Reed; and Carter Reed; also, great-grandchildren, Easton, Emmett, and Ella Grace.
Bill was a devoted member of Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 N Meridian Rd, where the visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd, at 1:00 PM followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children, or Faith Presbyterian Church Manna on Meridian.

The family would also like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for the outstanding care they provided to Bill, Wilma, and the family during the period of Bill’s illness.
