Laura Lady Hiner

Laura Linda Lady Hiner passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the age of 74. She is survived by her husband Eric; her daughter Danielle and her husband Joe Chaildin and her beloved grandchildren Elliot and Pete; her daughter Lauren and her husband Karl Seltzer and her beloved grandchildren Eloise, Penelope, and Arlo; and her brothers Bobby, Greg, and Jack Lady. She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy Lady and Aurora Montoy, her stepmother, Maria Cristina Rivera de Lady, and her brother William “Billy” Lady.

Laura was energetic and lively, loud and hilarious, the type of person who brought people together, made everyone laugh, owned every room she entered, and made everyone feel like family. She was a devoted spouse and mother, beloved grandmother, thoughtful and protective sister, and cherished mother-in-law.

Laura was the glue of her extended family and the person everyone turned to for advice, wisdom, and comfort. Her ability to bring family together will be deeply missed. She always checked in, never forgot a birthday, and made everyone feel special with her warmth and compassion. She was known for her unconditional love and nurturing spirit, selfless care for her loved ones, and ability to bring out the best in everyone she interacted with. Her legacy of love, compassion, and strength will continue to inspire her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Laura was born in Belize City, Belize, the first-born child of Billy Seldon Lady and Aurora “Fala” Montoy. She spent the first 23 years of her life living in Honduras. She attended the American School of Tegucigalpa, where she graduated in 1969 and was very loved by all her peers and teachers. She stayed in touch with many of her classmates from this time in her life, an example of her ability to form strong connections, even after she left Honduras to go to the United States.

Laura loved sharing stories from her childhood and early adulthood in Honduras. She reminisced about riding in her father's plane, stopping for snacks at roadside carts, spending time with her school friends, and being dropped off on an island to enjoy moments with her brothers. These are just a few examples of the cherished memories she held dear.

When she came to Miami, Florida in 1973, she worked at Southeast Bank, and eventually moved on to become the executive secretary for the CEO of the Sports Authority where she worked for many years. Laura transitioned to working in sales at Stericycle before landing at ABB. She retired in 2018 and enjoyed her extra freedom and spending her time with family, especially her cherished grandchildren.

She met her husband Eric through mutual friends in Miami and the two wed on November 28, 1984. Their first child, Erica Danielle Hiner, was born in 1986 and their second daughter, Lauren Meredith Hiner, joined the family in 1987. Laura loved her daughters deeply and was always ready to support them in any way needed.

Laura will be deeply and sorely missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of family and friends.

Laura nació en la ciudad de Belice, Belice, la primogénita de Billy Seldon Lady y Aurora “Fala” Montoy. Pasó los primeros 23 años de su vida viviendo en Honduras. Laura amaba a sus hijas profundamente y siempre estuvo dispuesta a apoyarlas de cualquier forma necesaria.
