Phylis Ruth Pershad, 73, of Port Charlotte, has joined our loving Creator at 8:35 PM, Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at The Vitas in Sunrise, Florida. She was born June 19, 1946, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Henry and Agatha James. She was the fifth child of the six children from that union.
Phylis migrated to the United States in 1976 and settled in New York working as a housekeeper. After successfully bringing all of her children to America for better opportunities, she moved her family to Hartford when she was offered an administrative opportunity at Aetna. She then moved to Boston where she entered the field of elderly care where she found her calling. She had a passion for caring for the elderly and stayed in that field until she retired in Port Charlotte, FL. She was known as one of the best cooks and cherished the time spent with her family and closest friends who all called her Ma or Big Phil.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Mark Grant, Janice Bowen, Janet James, Ferdinand Golding, Gary Pershad, Terence Pershad and Leanna Chin; Son-in-Law: Sedrick Chin; Daughter-in-Laws: Andrea Golding and Blessed Pershad; Grandchildren: Sandra Grant, Mark Grant, Ezekiel Grant, Tashawna Martin, Andre James, Desarae Thomas, Fernique Golding, Olivia Golding, Kito Golding, Malachi Golding, Gary Amani Pershad, Camella Pershad, Christian Chin and Camryn Chin; Great-grandchildren: Joshua Whyte, Anna Grant, Ali Holland, David Holland, Apple Holland and Gabriel Holland; Great-great-grandchild: Emmanuel Whyte; She also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.
