

“Junior” was born on February 9, 1938, to the late Alexander James Adkins Sr. and Georgia Marie Adkins. In 1962, he graduated from Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, where he met the love of his life, Martha Jean Rogers Adkins. He later earned a master’s degree in Human Resource Management and Counseling from Boston University.
Al generously served 20 years in the United States Army after completing ROTC at Virgina State University. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. As part of his 20 years’ service; he served two combat tours in Vietnam receiving numerous awards to include the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. Al's proudest moments included being an 82nd Airborne Division Jump Master and his time with numerous Special Force Commands. His many years in Europe with his family were by far some of the best of his life.
After retiring from the military, Al spent the next 30 years in Real Estate. Most of those years were with Murphy-Matthews & Associates where he built lifelong relationships with his coworkers, community and clients. He served many years as a volunteer for the Community Food Pantry, the Florida Cancer Education Network, the American Cancer Society and as a lead for the African American Men’s Health Forum. Al loved every baby and animal he met and always had dog treats readily available. His greatest legacy, undoubtably, lies in the hearts of his beloved grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Their lives are forever touched by his undeniable love, that shown through his warm heart, bright smile, and unwavering affection for them.
Al leaves a devoted and loving daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Reginald Wilson; three extraordinary grandchildren, Reggie II, Karina Lynn ‘Snookum’ and Alexander ‘Pioneer’ Wilson; his caring sister Carrie Rose Jones; dedicated nephews Christopher Ingram, Kolster ‘Buddy’ Jones Jr., Jordan Headen and Tyler Stevenson Jr.; adored nieces Myra (Joe) Ingram, Anita (Willie) Williams, Ambriel ‘Trouble’ (Julio) Jones, Talia ‘Smiley’ Jones and Amyra ‘Rosie’ Stevenson; faithful friends Winnie Gilmore, Herb and Brenda Waldron, Adrienne Decker and Marley Waldron Turner; and a host of extended family – especially those in Charles City – loved ones and family dog Mimi Bay.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Alexander J. Adkins Sr. and Georgia M. Adkins; his devoted wife, Martha J. Rogers Adkins; his loving sisters, Awamia J. Adkins and Erma M. Ingram; his gracious brother-in-law, Kolster L. Jones Sr.; his cherished son, Randal ‘Randy’ Adkins; his treasured grandson Brandon N. Wilson and his sidekick labrador Quincie E. Wilson.

A visitation for Alexander will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Village Presbyterian Church, 13115 S Village Dr, Tampa, FL 33618.
A funeral service will occur on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 13115 S Village Dr, Tampa, FL 33618.
Military honors will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.
