Barbara grew up in Columbus attending North High School. After graduating high school, she moved to Miami, Florida where she met the love of her life, John B. O’Malley. The two married and eventually had their daughter, Erin (nee O’Malley) Sarvis. Barbara eventually obtained her Bachelors and Master’s degree in Dietetics from Florida International University, and worked as a Registered Dietician for over 30 years, frequently attending dietician conferences around the United States.
Barbara eventually returned to Ohio, moving to Cincinnati to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. While in Cincinnati she volunteered at local elementary schools teaching healthy eating and nutrition. Eventually, Barbara moved to Largo, Florida where she lived until 2 years ago before moving back to Cincinnati to be close to her daughter.
Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband, John B. O’Malley, her mother Bennie (Haynie) Rhodes, her stepfather Gordie Rhodes, and her father James Nicholson.
She is survived by her daughter Erin (nee O'Malley) Sarvis and Richard Sarvis and 2 grandchildren, Alexandra Crouch and Daniel Humphrey.
Contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to Humane Society of Pinellas, 3040 State Road 590, Clearwater, FL 33759. A non-profit that has been caring for animals (including cats) in Pinellas County since 1949.
