Carol was born in Chicago, Illinois to Fred and Kathleen Maas on December 25, 1948. She moved to Homestead, Florida when she was 3 years old. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School from 1st to 8th grade. She then attended Immaculata Academy for high school. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of South Florida College of Education. She married the love of her life, Nelson Dallas Montgomery Jr on March 29, 1972 in Tampa, Florida. Carol worked as a middle school math teacher at Eisenhower Junior High for 34 years. During this time, she was math department head and awarded Teacher of the Year. Carol was extremely proud of her 2 grandchildren who were the center of her life. She enjoyed her involvement in St Mary’s Catholic Church, P.E.O. and the Lutz Women’s Association.
Carol is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nelson, and her parents, Fred and Kay Maas.
Carol is survived by her daughter Kathleen Tyson, son-in-law Michael Tyson, grandson Tyler Tyson, granddaughter Hailey Tyson, brother Fred Maas Jr (Tracey), brother Edward Maas (Laurie), sister Kathy Cuthbert (David), brother John Maas (Michele), sister Martha Maas and sister Rose Williams (John), 22 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, November 27 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (15520 N Boulevard Tampa, FL 33613). Carol will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with her beloved Nelson. In lieu of flowers, please make donations per Carol’s request to St Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampa.
