

Charles was born in Jackson, Tennessee and lived there through college when he graduated from Lambeth College (now the University of Memphis.)
Charles had a successful career with Upjohn Pharmaceuticals holding several positions, the last being in Government Affairs. He retired after 30 years of service. With a small number of physicians he formed the Florida Society for Critical Care Medicine, an organization that provided continuing education for those in the critical care medical field. He was a Founding Member and served as the Executive Director of FSCCM for 33 years. St. Mark’s Episcopal Church benefited greatly from his service as Senior Warden. He was also Senior Warden at his church in Gainesville, FL. His labor of love for St. Mark’s was creation of beautiful stained-glass windows that are permanently installed there and provide inspiration to the congregation.
Charles is survived by his loving spouse of 35 years, Susie Towater; son, Chris Towater, and grandson, Ryan Zbikowski and his wife, Carolyn; niece, Vicky Adams and her husband, Terry and nephew, Kenny Dalton. He is predeceased by daughter, Renee; parents, Josie and Oscar Towater, and siblings Lucille, Jane, and Lou.
Charles served in the US Army Reserve as Sergeant and was Honorably discharged in 1961.

Charles was an exceptional man who strived for perfection in every undertaking. He was a passionate reader, loved working with his hands creating wood workings and stained glass pieces for all to enjoy. Charles was a devoted husband, father and grand-dad. We love him and will keep him in our hearts always.
A celebration of life funeral mass will take place at 11:30am on January 11, 2025 at St Mark’s Episcopal Church located at 13312 Cain Rd., Tampa, FL 33625 with a reception to follow after the service.
