

David Floyd Ford, age 81, of Tampa, Florida passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024. Born November 12, 1942, in Lake City, Florida. He graduated from Summerlin Institute (Bartow High) in 1960. From there he went on to serve his country in the Air Force from 1960-1967. Upon leaving the military, he earned his bachelor's degree in management from Tampa College in 1977. After graduating, he worked for the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller from 1968-1981. He then started a new career in car sales (1982-2010) and retired from Stadium Toyota where he had earned the distinction of Salesman of the Year.
He was known as "Big D" to many not only for his stature but also for his personality. Nothing was better than a good joke and to him making you laugh was priceless. He loved cars, particularly sports cars, going all the way back to his own days of racing a Lotus 11. In his free time, he liked working in his yard and loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. He and Francine enjoyed traveling and cruising together exploring new places.
David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Francine Ford; and his children, Patricia Reeves, Gina Ford, Debbie Brannon, David M. Ford, Robyn Grantham, Noel Shusterman, and Kevin Brown. He also has 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Daniel, Virginia, and Jennifer Ford.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 12 at 10AM at Blount & Curry Carrollwood Funeral Home, 3207 W. Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12 at 11AM at Blount & Curry Carrollwood Funeral Home, 3207 W. Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Ronald McDonald House in David Ford's name.
