David was known as a hardworking and determined man who carried a strong sense of duty to his family and his work. A man of discipline and independence, he built his life around perseverance and self-reliance.
He enjoyed the outdoors and had a passion for hunting and golf. His adventurous spirit took him across the world, including hunting trips to Africa and travels to Alaska and Australia. At home, he enjoyed the company of his dogs, watching classic Western films, listening to old country music, and relaxing with a glass of Merlot. He was also known for what he humorously called his “practice naps.”
Those who worked with him remember his strong personality and leadership style. David often jokingly referred to himself as “Mr. Wonderful” and proudly proclaimed himself the inventor of the “Triple Check System,” a concept he made sure every employee remembered well.
When his children were young, David shared his love of the outdoors with them through airboat rides and frequent trips to the beach.
He is survived by his wife, Fran Winston; his son, Tim Winston; and his daughter, Kristy Winston. He is also survived by two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his strong will, his work ethic, and the life experiences he shared with his family.
