He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, one of two children born to the late Joe R and Mary E Durden.
He joined the United States Army during WWII. He worked for the Civil Service Board, First National Bank and Coca Cola until settling into a career with G.T.E. (Verizon) , retiring as a Forecast Analyst.
He met his soulmate, Barbara Joy Vest, while traveling for Coca Cola. They were wed December 16, 1956, and were blessed with 2 sons. They were faithful Christians and served in many ways within the congregations of Temple Terrace United Methodist and Lake Magdeline United Methodist where Bob was able to use his gifts faithfully in the choir of both congregations.
Barbara preceded Bob in death in 1991. Surviving Bob are his 2 sons; Donald Durden, Jr and wife Linda, and Jonathan Durden and wife Diane, three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bob has donated his body to science so a life celebration will be held later which will include military honors and Bob being laid to rest next to Barbara.
