Sue Raymer of Tampa, FL passed away at Palm Gardens Nursing Home on April 13, 2022
Sue was born March 14, 1940 to Loy and Helen (Rigsby) French in Hollow Rock, TN. Sue attended high school at Harvey High in Painesville, OH where her parents had moved when she was just four years old.
While in high school, she served as a member of the Scarlet Torch and an important member of “Anvil”, the yearbook staff. Her yearbook description listed her as “Susie”, expressive green eyes, clothes with class, personality shines from her happy nature, neat as a pin, and a breathless cutie. She was voted the best dressed of her class.
In 1973, she met Norm where she became the love of his life. They were married in 1976 and she was a very important part of a family-owned restaurant in Painesville, OH. With her smile and helpful personality, she became known and loved by all the customers at the restaurant. In early 1983, after visiting friends in Florida and got home to Ohio, they decided to move there, put their house up for sale and moved in October that same year. While in Tampa, with her caring smile and outstanding personality, she worked as an administrative assistant helping agents, staff and customers of a large insurance office.
Sue and Norm loved to travel and through work and personal time, were able to see nearly every state in the U.S., Europe twice, Hawaii several times, and Sue’s favorite place, Alaska. They spent two wonderful weeks, renting a car and touring from Anchorage to Telkeetna, a trip into Denali National Park and viewing Mt. Denali. Then on to Fairbanks, The North Pole, Kenai and Seward where they went whale watching, viewed the ice bergs and went deep sea fishing. Along the way, they had the good fortune of enjoying four “five star” restaurants, and a cable car ride to the top of a ski resort.
She is survived by her husband, Norman D. Raymer, her loving daughter Linda S. Mueller of Vista, CA and a son, Richard Flacke of Tampa. Although she had no grandchildren, she was an animal lover who had eight dogs as loving family pets over her lifetime and she and Norm bred and showed Cocker Spaniels at one time. Her most recent family members were a Shi Tzu “Cody”, and Goldendoodles “Molly and Rosie”.
Sue was preceded in death by parents, Loy and Helen French, and an uncle, James “Jimmy” French.
Following Sue’s wishes, the family chose cremation. A Celebration of life Service will be held in the Sanctuary at Lake Magdalene Methodist Church, 2902 West Fletcher Avenue, Tampa, FL 33618 on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made in Sue’s name to Humane Society of Tampa or the American Cancer Society.
