She was born in Cuba to the late Josefina and Hilario Curbelo.
She married her soulmate, Eloy Luis in 1958. They fled from Cuba to Spain and then to the United States. Emelina also known as Mima, Eme, Ma, Abuela... She was a talented seamstress, creating suits for her father and husband. Later creating clothing for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her family was her life, she enjoyed caring for them, and they enjoyed eating her food. She wanted nothing more than to keep her family together, always bringing us together with her great cooking and best chicharrones ever! Especially the ones she would hide “just for you.”Shhhh in the microwave. Truth is, it’s hard putting all of her good traits into writing. No matter how hard we try, we can never do justice to what she overcame in her lifetime. We are all grieving today for we all lost a great lady. But know where she is now, she’s happy and content with the life she had. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to all of us. I’m sure each and every one of you here today has something to share on how she touched your life. She shared a lot of good memories and loved music and dancing. She was a very very strong woman and she always went out of her way to help her loved ones. She never liked asking for help but she was always ready to lend a helping hand to others. Let’s be very thankful that we knew such a special soul.
