Gonzalez, Enrique “Henry”, 77, passed away on Feb. 18, 2019. He was born in Ybor City on Feb. 23, 1941 to Araceli “Babe” Gonzalez and Mary Gomez Gonzalez Simon and celebrated his Asturian heritage throughout his life.
Henry graduated from OLPH Catholic School, attended the University of Tampa, and achieved journeyman status as a proud and active member of IBEW Local 915, where he served a term as Vice President. He worked at Busch Gardens for over 30 years and assisted his father in Gonzalez Bros. Construction, ultimately leading that enterprise.
Family was Priority One for Henry, who was married for over 56 years to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Barcena). In addition, Henry cherished his Catholic faith, friends, good food, cars and sports, especially baseball.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son, Rico, and his brother, Rene. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Lola Stein (Andrew); his daughter-in-law, Lisa; grandchildren Lauren and Robbie Cusmano, and Lena and Rico Gonzalez; sisters-in-law Loretta Allewelt and Kathy Betancourt; nephews Wayne and Sean Allewelt; niece Elizabeth Allewelt Rich; and dear cousin Eileen Gomez Richmond.
Enrique “Henry” Gonzalez will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Sunday, Feb. 24 at Blount & Curry Terrace Oaks Chapel. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Monday, Feb. 25 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, followed by entombment at Centro Asturiano Memorial Park.
