Franceda Duhon Veal

Franceda was born in Beaumont, Texas to Geraldine and Earl Duhon on January 22, 1941. She attended Charlton-Pollard High School in Beaumont. She moved to Spokane, Washington with her first husband Bertram Lewis and subsequently moved to Richland, Washington where she met her second husband Cleburne Veal. She eventually married Cleburne in 1981 and moved to Anchorage, Alaska. She lived there until 2019, then moved to convalesce in Florida. She graduated from Eastern Washington University and Fort Wright College of Holy Names where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the 1970’s, respectively. She taught home economics and business for over 40 years in Washington and Alaska, particularly at Dimond High School for 33 years in Anchorage. She was a proud member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority, of the National Education Association and of the African Methodist Episcopal church in Anchorage, Alaska. .

Franceda is preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine and Earl Duhon and her sister, Earline Duhon.

Franceda is survived by her son Bertram A. Lewis, Jr. and daughter-in-law Kathy Lewis, her brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Dee Duhon, nephews Gerald Walter and Jordan Duhon, great uncle and aunt Matthew and Linda Bowie and her grandchildren Katherine and Remington Lewis as well as many other cousins and family members.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held 4 pm Friday, May 31, 2024 at Blount and Curry Funeral Home at 3207 W. Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618. Guests may start to arrive at 3:30pm.
