Gloria Esther Maya

Mrs. Gloria Esther Maya, 92, went home to be with her husband and the Lord on Sunday morning, March 23, 2025, in Brandon, Florida. Gloria was born in 1932 in Isabela, Puerto Rico. She married Jose R. Maya, and together, they shared 56 wonderful years, traveling the world as a United States Air Force family until he retired. They made their home here in Tampa, Florida, for the past 55 years.

After getting her GED and graduating from Robinson High School, Gloria went on to serve as a teacher’s aid at Turkey Creek Elementary and later at Trapnell Elementary, retiring after 20 years with the Hillsborough County School System. She was passionate about teaching and took great joy in helping migrant children and their families learn the American way.

Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose. She is survived by her three sons, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She will always be remembered for her love and compassion for others.

A visitation for Gloria will be held Friday, March 28, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E LAKE AVE, TAMPA, FL 33610.
