

John E. “Jack” McAllister, Jr. 67, resident of Apollo Beach, FL died on December 18, 2014 while at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital after battling metastatic prostate cancer. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Ann Smith. He attended the University of Pittsburgh. He leaves his wife Cathy (Navin), sister Carol Plusqualec (Ron) of Chicago, step brother & sister William and Cheryl Smith of Pittsburgh, daughter Jacquelyn of New Smyrna Beach and son John & his wife Leah (Dansby) of Tampa, also survived by grandsons, Jakob & Caleb of Tampa and Jackson of New Smyrna Beach. He was a retired entrepreneur and an active volunteer for various Vietnam Veterans organizations. He was a devoted Steelers fan, father and grandfather. He was proud to be an organ donor and enjoyed traveling, fishing & spending quality time with those he loved. He served his country with honor and courage in Vietnam with the 173rd Army Airborne Division. He was awarded three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star with valor. He will be interred with military honors in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial services will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood Chapel located at 3207 W. Bearss Avenue on December 29, 2014 visitation at 6pm and service at 7pm. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project.
