

KOTFILA JR., John Robert, 30, of Valrico, FL., succumbed to his injuries on March 12, 2016 at Tampa General Hospital after a head on collision with a wrong way driver while on duty with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department. John received Student of the Year at Lawrence Junior High School, graduated from Falmouth High and received a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice at Westfield State College. He moved to FL six years ago and joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. John was also a founding member of the agency’s SafetyNet Team, which assists in finding adults and children with special needs who have wandered from home. In his spare time, he enjoyed mountain biking, tri-athalons and Tough Mudders. He also loved cars, computers and country music. John is survived by his parents, John and Theresa Kotfila; siblings, Michael, Katelyn and Patrick Kotfila; grandparents, Robert and Kathleen Cahoon, Robert and Elaine Kotfila and Barbara Guenette; aunts and uncles, Robert Cahoon, Jr. and Lynn Cahoon, Robert Kotfila, Shelley McCarthy, Bridget Benge and Gareth Guenette; along with many cousins, countless friends, colleagues and his faithful German Shepherd companion, Dexter. A funeral mass will be held 1:00pm, Friday, March 18, 2016 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 17512 Lakeshore Rd., Lutz, FL with the family receiving friends from 11:00am until the time of his service. Additional services will take place in Falmouth, Massachusetts. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 4:00-8:00pm at Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home with a service at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
