John Julius Lopez Sr.

John Julius Lopez, age 79, of Tampa, Florida, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025. He was born in Tampa, to the late Olga and Evelio Lopez. Johnny, as he was often belovedly called, attended Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1963. He furthered his studies, earning her Associates, and Bachelors, from the University of South Florida, and later his Masters from Duke University. John served the Hillsborough County Public School System for close to 40 years, as both a junior high science teacher, and an inventory control specialist. He loved sports, and volunteered to coach at West Tampa Little League, for a few seasons. John considered himself a Catholic for life, and a faithful parishioner at St Joseph's Catholic Church, where he married our beloved late mother, Christine Lazzara Lopez (1945-2023). John is also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children; Catherine Rose Alvarez and John Julius Lopez, Jr (Jennifer Lopez), grandchildren; Wesley Alan Alvarez, Jaden Michael Lopez, Kiley Ann Lopez, Laney Christine Lopez, Preston Scott Lopez, extended family, and friends. A graveside service, for both John, and his beloved Christine (as they will be laid to rest together), will be held Monday, June 9th, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E LAKE AVE, TAMPA, FL 33610, where flowers may also be sent.
