I remember this day like it was yesterday…

My father was a man of deep faith in his lord and savior Jesus Christ . His faith in Jesus Christ was the center of his life. I have his bible and reading the notes in the pages he marked gives me great peace in knowing where he is, and that someday we will be reunited in Glory! 
As the Bible teaches us he loved everyone. He believed in influencing by his actions, and sometimes words. This was at the center of many great conversations about our faith. 

Part one:
The book of love, chapter one, verse one. 
The philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer once said that "Life without pain is meaningless." and he was right. Some of us embrace that pain and make it part of our psyche, some give up because the pain is too much, some let it consume them and they become bitter and some like my father used that pain as a motivator to leave the country he loved in order to find a better future for his beloved wife and children, a land of freedom and opportunities that manifested itself into the huge family and circle of friends he had. My father's life was full and rich with meaning, strife, loyalty, synchronicity, serendipity, humor, dancing, sadness, joy and love. He was loved my many and liked by all he encountered, he was quick witted and at times sarcastic and he knew how to tell a joke. In my formative years he was like a God to me, or at least what a child perceives a God to be. He provided all my needs and my families needs with the help of his loving wife and my Mother Ana. He made me laugh daily, taught me about science, how to be a gentleman and most importantly how to be a humanist by instilling morals and ethics that were not subservient to any religion or God these things would shape me into the person that I am today.
He was a man of science, he took an oath to "Do no harm", he brought life into this world delivering babies, he was instrumental to the medical process as a radiologist and often saved lives with his diagnosis and often had to be the bearer of bad news.  He was well respected in the medical community and by his peers

Part two:
Now I'm going to tell you something on a personal note.  My favorite things I loved about my father, he never told me once what to think, he never told me once what to believe in, he never told me once that I had to believe in God to be a good person. He was a man that believed in God and yet knowing that his son did not believe in no way changed the way he loved me. He saw a spark in my eyes, at a young age, he knew that I had a thirst for knowledge and a love of Science and Nature and he facilitated my thirst by providing me and my family with a childhood long subscription to The National Geographic Foundation's monthly magazine, he bought me countless books on history and classics like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird, he bought me music from many genres and he supported my love of music by paying teachers to teach me the piano, the saxophone and he supported me when I was in the school marching band. 
I won't lie I was quite a handful as a child but my father handled me with dignity, grace, patience and the love that only a true Father, gentleman and Scholar could.
In finality I would like to say one last thing about the last five years of my father's life, many in the family and among his circle of friends new about his medical condition and I just want to let you all know that my sister Madelaine was instrumental during this period for his care and well being along with my brother, Mother and a close network of caretakers.
He went in peace and without pain.

To my loving, devoted aunt Cuca, my cherished cousins Maddy, Jorgie (Odalys) & Frankie, and beloved little (and not so little) cousins, my heart is broken into a million pieces.  I absolutely treasured every single moment I had with Tio Capote, as a child and as an adult.  I passed along those loving memories to my daughters who LOVED visiting their Tampa family and who are now crushed by Tio's passing, as am I and my husband Arty.  I have too many memories to share but will always remember the love he had for his family.  I take solace in the fact that the family is rooted in faith.  I regret not being there for my family but please know that my whole heart is with all of you, not only now but always.  LOVE YOU ALL!!!
