Karen Zielinski

Karen was born in Depew, New York, on August 13, 1964, where she went to school and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She continued on to received her Master’s Degree in Leadership Education from the University of South Florida.

Karen was married to Fred Zielinski in 1982 and remained married for 34 years. They had one child together, Lindsey Zielinski. Karen first worked as an educator in Depew, New York, then was hired on in Hillsborough County in 1982 at Robles Elementary. In 1989 Karen transitioned from teacher to administration where she served as Assistant Principal at Bellamy Elementary and Morgan Woods Elementary Schools. In 1999 she moved into an Elementary School Supervisor position until she became Principal of Essrig Elementary. In 2007 Karen opened Hammond Elementary and worked there until 2009. It was Karen’s honor and privilege to serve as Hammond Elementary School’s first Principal.

Karen loved spending time with her family and friends, the beach, Fostoria, shopping, and Fleetwood Mac.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Lindsey Zielinski. Karen was well cared for in her final months by Eddy and Math Ogebekhilu of Gomes Place Assisted Living Facility in Lutz.

The funeral service will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at 3207 W. Bearss Ave., Tampa, FL 33618. Visitation will start at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hammond Elementary School PTA.
