I would like to give you my condolences for the loss of your beautiful Kim.  I just found out.  I know time holds no space when we lose someone we love.  Very sorry!

I met Kim in eighth grade, at Middleton Junior High School, in 1971, when, she and April Starling broke into my locker and left a noteRicky, do you like Kim?       YEAH!!

Kim was beautiful, no, gorgeous, outgoing, outspoken and sassy! all things that I was not I . was . in . love.

Kim was a Guthrie girl (the only blue-eyed one, she was quick to point out).  In that time, everyone knew a Guthrie Girl, 5 beautiful girls, my brothers all went to school with one, anywhere we went someone would know one of them, if not all.

During our High School years at Hillsborough, we ran in different circles; I was not as cool, good looking or popular as Kim, she had her pick of many suitersAs fate would have it, we met up again after college, while living at River Gardens apartments on the Hillsborough River.  We fell in love and, somehow, I convinced her to marry me, a penniless architect, with no job and a bicycle.  How Lucky was I

My career took us away from Tampa, along the way we were blessed with two beautiful sons, Dylan in Orlando, Conor, two years later in Yorktown, Virginia.  
She loved, nurtured and raised them into the fine young men you see today - 
they are Her pride. Her heart. Her soul.

Everywhere we lived, Kim met new friends, she never met a stranger, in fact she was known to pick-up-strays', both four legged and those who walk upright.  We always had someone join us at special occasions; Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, someone that was less fortunate, someone in need of friendship, someone whom Kim befriended and welcomed into our home.

Kim loved music, (I was always turning the volume down, fearful for our hearing). Paul McCartney, Dave Mathews, Ben Folds, amongst many, many, many others, she always had a new artist to share, a song lyric to sing, a new video to post. 

Her friends were many, too many to count, (she would walk into a grocery store and return with 10 new friends)but none of her friends were more precious than Kathy, April and Kim. 

She loved animals, we raised many cats and upon moving back to Tampa in 1997, she rescued Tuxedo - Baron von Blackjack Tuxedo - she named him, her beloved Bernese mountain dog and companion (wherever Kim would go, Tuxedo would follow, never needing a leash, he was always by her side, her shadow). 

Tuxedo came into our life at a time of tragedy, as Kelly Guthrie, Kim's beloved sister, sadly, passed away.  Kim never got over the loss of Kelly, they were practically twins, 16 months apart.   After Kelly's passing, Kim would always find signs of her, a dragonfly here, an omen there, she was very spiritualI'm comforted to know that now, she and Kelly are once again united, beautiful angels, making friends and bringing joy, music and laughter to those less fortunate.

Through 28 years of marriage, I have loved and cared for Kim, but that torch of love was lit 45 years ago, as skinny little Kim Guthrie came into my life and changed it forever.

Kim, I miss you and I will carry my torch for youuntil we meet again.

My friendship with Kim began when we were 3years old.  We grew up on the same street and lived 3 doors down from each other.

I think I spent as much time at their house as I did my own.  I probably owe them rent for all the time I spent there.

We shared our secrets and dreams & drove her sister's nuts, which we were very good at, I must say.  We even got to name the neighbors puppies which we quickly called, Paul, John, George and Ringo, of course; Kim called dibs on Paul.

We spent hours sitting on the curb at the street corner looking up at the clouds and describing what we saw, talking about family, friends, boys and dreaming about getting married one day.  We had the typical young girl dream; we wanted the white picket fence, nice house, 2 cars (so we didn't have to share), children and the BEST husband in the world!  Well, I'm here to tell you today both our dreams came true minus the white picket fence which we later determined was no longer needed. 

She loved you Rick, Dylan and Conor with every being of her heart and soul and always will.  You could feel the love she had for her family whenever you were around her.

She enveloped us all in the warmth of her smile and the strength of her hugs.  She didn't just sparkle when she walked into a room  she lit that sucker up and now she shines above for ALL the world to see.

In closing I want to share what happened to me last Friday on my way to work.  I was sitting at a red light and the girl in front of me in a small red pickup truck bent over to get something and I noticed her hair.  It reminded me of Kim when she would pull up her hair to keep it out of her face, and I sat there and smiled.  My eyes eventually looked down at her tag and I couldn't believe what it said:  503 KIM.  At the time I knew May 3 was the day they found Kim but I found myself asking God (because I knew this was a God thing and also a Kim thing) what was He trying to tell me, what did this mean? And without hesitation, the words came back to me, Kim isn't dead, it was just time for her to move on, she's just moved to a new neighborhood.  I smile when I think of what the reunion was like between Kim, Kelly and Simone  can you just imagine!

But if I could ask God for one request, however, it would be Can you please hold the house 3 doors down for me?

I'll love you forever.  Until we meet again my friend!

Dear Mom,

I wanted to write you a letter of gratitude.  The purpose of this letter is to tell you how positively you have impacted my life.  It is also to share with you how your tender love and care has shaped me into the person I am today.  I will try my best to put into words how much you mean to me, although I know that it will fall short.

First, thank you so much for bringing me into this world.  I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to carry me around for 9 months!  It didn't get any easier after birth, either.  Only a mother could love a baby who screamed non-stop for the first 6-months of his life.  But you tended to me dearly and nursed me to 26 pounds, aptly naming me Sumo Sausage Baby.

Second, I would like to thank you for making me into the social butterfly that I am today.  I learned to follow your lead as you made strangers into dear friends. In fact, I followed the legacy you left behind at Hillsborough High School when I was voted the most outgoing my senior year.  You were always someone that everyone wanted to be around  considering your vivacity, warm-heartedness, and infectious smile, it is no wonder why.  

Third, you taught me one of the most important lessons that I ever learned  that the best way to live life is without a filter.  You taught me that it was okay to be loud, to be weird, to stick my tongue out in photos, to push the status quo, and to embrace my personality.  You showed me that it was okay not to be normaland, in fact, it was fun!

Finally, you taught me to act compassionately, to give generously, and to love with a full heart.  People love me for the way I treat them, for how I make them feel when they are with me.  This is a result of you showing me how to love and care for others.  When you would spend time with me or anyone else, you always had a way of making everything fall away so that it was only you and me in the roomand that I was the only person who mattered.  

There are so many things for which I am incredibly grateful.  There are so many things that you have taught me and shown me that have made me into the person that I am today.  There is no way I could ever repay you for these gifts; all I can do is to share these gifts with others.  And in these moments of sharing, it is important that they know that these gifts came from my mom.  For, without you, I would never be who I am today.  I love you endlessly.

There is no charm equal to tenderness of heart.

Kim had the most tender heart any of us have ever known, and I think we all know she was likely the most charming, magnetic person on the planet. Kim had a way of making you feel. I remember being a teenager, and as many teenage girls areI was insecure about who I was, what I said, and God knows about the way my body looked. But any time I saw her, even if I had just rolled out of bed, all she had to do was tuck my hair behind my ear or tell me how pretty I looked, and I was a new woman. A better woman.

My mom met Kim when they were in the 7th grade. Mom and I were talking a couple of days ago about their first encounter and what's funny isit all happened so fastthey became friends so quickly that my mom barely even remembers the details. What she said was, WellI remember being in the cafeteria and stopping to talk to this beautiful girl, and her friend Cathy, and then we never really were apart after that. That story is probably pretty typical for everyone's first Kim story. You talked to her once and you knew you loved her and never wanted to be too far away from her again.

Then I got to hear about how my mom and Kim met Rick. They were in the same 8th grade classand being the young troublemakers they weremy mom and Kim broke into Rick's locker to give him a note that said, Ricky, do you like Kim? And I think it is safe to sayHe liked her VERY much. So much in fact that he would marry her in 1987, and he would be the man she loved fiercely for the rest of her life.

Throughout my childhood, Kim and Rick and their boys were always a yearly staple. They even moved to Virginia for a little while. We went to visit them in the hospital when Conor was born and we were able to celebrate Conor's first birthday at their home in Newport News. During that timeall I can remember is how unconditionally in love she was with her two sons. She was so patient and so devoted to themI don't think I have ever seen her more happy than when she was with Dew Bug and her little love, Conor.

Once they moved back to Tampawe visited often. And even though we were states away, I remember getting home from school after softball practice and seeing the garage door open, and my mom on the phone with her friend, Kim. Kim helped my mom through some of the toughest times in her life. They would talk for hours, about this and thatbut ultimately what was so comforting about Kim was that she would be there no matter whatwithout pretense or judgment, just because you needed her. She would give you the perfect song to listen to if you were feeling blue and would make you laugh your tail off at the drop of a hat. Never has a woman so beautiful been so willing to look silly for the sake of a punch line or a smile.

My favorite memory of Kim is going to Passagrille with her and my mom. We'd sit on the beach and talk about life and music and politics and her sons. We'd lay on our stomachs, on our beach chairs--face to face. And she listened intently as I talked about college plans and boys. It might sound mundane, but those talks were when Kim was at her best Making you feel like every word you said was important, and so were you.

Mom and I were looking through photos of Kim this past week. And all we could think was how irresistible she was and always has been. I fell in love with her over and over again-- every time I saw her. She was so warm and open and loving-and always made me feel smart, and funny, and beautiful. My mom and I have been talking about how many people must think of her as their best friend-- because Lord knows she made everyone feel like they were the only person in the room.

Even after she left us, she made sure to let us know she was alrightshe made sure to let us know we meant a great deal to her. When my mom picked me up from the airport a few days ago, it is fair to say we were both in rough shape. We were praying that she knew how loved she was and how important she was to my mom. --Part of the reason my mom moved home was because of Kim's persistence in trying to get her here. Kim would serenade my mom on a weekly basis with Kenny Loggins' lyrics Please--celebrate me home! My mom was so looking forward to growing old with the girl that would be forever young her Kimmy. So as we were driving, my mom kept saying, I just hope she knew how much I loved her, and that she was the most beautiful, loving friend I ever had. As we pulled up to a stoplight, I looked ahead and said momI think she does know, LOOK! And there in front of us was a license plate with Kim written on it.

We love you, sweet Kim-- my fellow old soul. And every time I hear Ben Folds or Paul McCartney on the radio--or see a stray cat that you would inevitably go up to and love on--I will think of you. You are one of the most precious, unforgettable people I have ever met, and you will be in our hearts and souls forever.

I can count on one hand my true friends.  Today I've lost the thumb.  Kim was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Tampa over 30 years ago.  I felt really special to have been befriended by her. It wasn't until later that I realized she made everyone feel special.  There are many words that come to mind when I think of Kim.  The first are "all in."  She never held back.  She loved with her whole heart.  She cried with her whole heart.  She laughed with her whole heart.  She had a wicked sense of humor.  One day four of us went to lunch at the beach.  We held the door for a pregnant woman on our way out and Kim says to me "she's having a boy.  I'm always right about this."  So she says to the lady, "you're having a boy right?" And the lady says, "I'm not pregnant." Kim turns to me and says "Guess I'm not always right."  

The next word that comes to mind is "LATE".  Kim was punctually challenged.  And it was annoying.  But then she'd get there 45 minutes later and you couldn't be annoyed any more because she was so happy to see you.  

Kim was devoted, as a friend, as a wife, as a daughter, a sister and mother.  She was joyful and nothing made her more joyful than her boys, Dylan and Conor.  With your birth, Kim was fulfilled.  You filled her heart with pride and joy.  These qualities that we all love about Kim have been passed to you.  Her blood and her passion for life flows in your veins.  You haven't lost her because she lives inside you.  I know she wants you to live your lives to the fullest, to prosper, to be happy, and to be the kind, strong young men that you are.  

To honor Kim, let's take a page out of her book.  Say something kind to the person in the check out line, sing in the kitchen.  Kim's energy and spirit live on.  Just because we don't see her doesn't mean she's not with us.  Love doesn't die.

When we lived in Newport News, VA, my husband had a job offer in CA. We wanted to check things out, but had no family to babysit our daughter. Kim stepped right up and offered to keep her. Jessica had never been away from us and I was really worried. Kim took Jessica, Dylan, and Conor to Chuck E. Cheese's, the park, and many other places. She kept Jessica occupied until she fell exhausted into bed. Kim promised me she'd watch over her like her own and make her feel safe and loved. And that's exactly what she did. Jessica had no time to wonder where her mommie was, because Kim never allowed her to. Kim was one of the most generous friends I've ever known. She made everyone feel like they were her best friend. I'll never forget her kind ways and words that always put a smile on my face. God bless you, Kim.

Today I was at Barnes and Noble, same as last week around the same time...and I hear the song that played in your funeral.  The lyrics say "In the arms of the angel, far away from here, in the arms of the angel...may you find...some comfort here". As much as I would think "hey maybe this song is on repeat in this location" my heart just instantly reminds me of you KIMMY...it's as though you were telling me that you are near. Always here. That you surround me always, my angel, before on earth and now in heaven. I do find comfort in your arms and knowing you are near. I hope you and Kelly are having a blast. You sure are missed around here. I love you.

When I moved to Ft. Myers for a new job, Kim would share dinners with my honey...leaving them in the mail box for when he got home from work...What a jewel... the sweetest, kindest, prettiest, funniest person one could hope to know... I feel blessed to have been her friend... a part of her stays with all of us who loved her.  She was a wonderful Mom and she loved all of you SO much.  She was larger than life ... and thus will remain a part of us forever...Godspeed, Kimmy. Be at peace with Kelly and the angels...

I can remember coming over for a movie night at the Rigsby house. It was my first time coming over and meeting Dylan's family along with a group of our high school friends. I don't know why but there is always nervousness when meeting new people but there didn't need to be. Kim was like the sun - warm, inviting and present. She was certainly no wallflower. There was no way she was going to escape notice. She was very kind to me and as the only person of the group she hadn't met she brought me yellow roses. I was surprised! I hadn't expected that at all, after all we'd just met, but Kim was never someone you could call predictable. When she gave me the flowers she told me "they're yellow which is the color for friendship. Now we're going to be friends." That moment was memorable and so was she. I'm lucky to have had a chance to meet her and have witnessed her vivacity firsthand. I know her loss will be painfully felt.

She could light up a room.  I'm going to miss her so much.

Kim and I shared the month of December for our birthdays. Hers the 10th and mine the 20th. She called the evening of my 17th year to ask if she could come over because she had a present for me. She showed up in the pouring rain to give me a little ring. It was a thin band with some carvings all the way around. I was so touched by this kind gesture. I swear I wore that little ring till it broke. Then kept it for many years after. Just sitting there in my jewelry box. My many thoughts & prayers go out to her loving family & friends.

I was in Florida again last week and I couldn't help but think of you. Last time I was there I had heard the news and my world turned upside down. I couldn't help but smile on this trip, however, because one day I saw this giant Iguana (who my parents have never seen on their property, mind youever) and I had a feeling you were right there with me. Pondering while watching the lake, the water and the sky. You're always with me but I sure wish I could get a giant KIMMY hug right now. Love you KIMMY ? and I miss you oh so so much.

We met in September 1987 in a restaurant in St. Lucia where Kim, Rick, Atul and I were on honeymoon. We were planning on celebrating our 30th anniversaries next year by meeting up for the first time since then! Since that time though we kept in touch - for many years we would catch up on Super Bowl night! We may not have seen one another for many years, but I have had the privilege to count Kim as a friend and will miss her greatly.

She was the light on a sunless day... a huge loss for her loved ones...

My heart is very sad that you are no longer here my friend.
May you rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father in peace. May our Father bless and heal the wounds of your families broken hearts and souls with His soothing balm. I love you Kim.

Kim was beautiful, quick-witted, outgoing and kind.  She would light up a room when she walked into it.  I always admired her joy of life.

I visited Kim and Rick in New York in September. True to Kim's character she welcomed me with open arms. She always makes me feel special. The way she was present, in the moment, she was with me. Kim was so warm and loving. She and Rick spent their afternoon with me in the park. It was my best day there and I will always treasure my last time with her.

•I can't believe you're gone Kimmy. I got to NY almost a year ago and felt a little out of sorts. I felt more at home the instant I met you. You were this constant light, smile, friend and soul and instantly our friendship took hold. You took me in just like a momma hen takes in her baby chick and you never let go. I will miss our philosophic conversations, your laugh, your cooking (oh yeah butter and garlic on everything!), your love for Ben Folds, the love you have for Rick and your kids, your voice and most of all your big humongous heart. Just last week we were casually talking on the phone. I was talking about work and school and you were talking about something personal you shared. I said "it's going to be alright. Don't be sad because everything will work itself out" you replied "I am so happy to have found a friend like you". I know there were more things said but what you said will stay with me forever.  . I haven't been back in my college town for 3 years now...and this weekend before finding out about you I decided to come back. Coincidence? No. I think you wanted me to be here. To be present. To be able to feel you around these trees. To remind myself that life is short. I love you and I miss you so much already. My heart is broken.

She was a warm super lady. She will be missed.. God speed Kim. Rest in peace my friend.

Kim was one of a kind. And boy did she make you feel special about yourself. Her smile, and embracing hugs will never be replaced. I miss her already. It does not seem real.

The good times with Kimmy were always GREAT! I remember chaperoning April and Kim and their friends with my daughter Carmen Michelle, who was about four at the time.  That is an experience I'll never forgetthose girls were really rowdy and I loved it.  May my sister Kim rest in peace! Splashy, as she called me. Kabuki sister, as I called her.

Kimmy girl, you're irreplaceable--and when a Beatles song comes on or a killer sunset descends into the ocean, we'll think of you and know you're there, because you're in our hearts and our souls forever.

Life is a party and you were the Life of the Party KIMMY!!!! Miss you and you were always a true friend and my Football Momma forever.

We have been friends for 43 years. She always had a smile from ear to ear. I will miss her and will always have a very special place in my heart for hershe is an angel now.

My dear FL/NY mom... Words cannot express how greatly you will be missed. Your enthusiasm for life, your constant smile, and your carefree spirit were only a few of the reasons why you were amazing. Thank you for "adopting me" when you first arrived to NYC and encouraging me to be the best version of myself and to just have fun a little. Gator games will not be the same this year without you here.

I met Denise Guthrie in 1969. I'd come by the Guthrie house as I was becoming friends with Denise.  She introduced me to Alicia. Then, I was introduced to Kim and Kelly and became very close with them. Ever since 1980 Kim was my closest Guthrie loving friendship...I was at her wedding. I have so many stories of Kim that I will never forget. Love you. God Bless, Amen.

I had the pleasure to meet Kim and her family when our kids went to Carrollwood Baptist Church, since then a nice friendship was born. Through carpools and field trips, Kim always shined with her generosity and bubbly personality. Our deepest condolences to Rick, Dylan, Conor and family!

I first met Kim when Conor and my son Cody were in Kindergarten at Trinity. As our boys became closer over the years growing up, I got to know her more and she just always made us all laugh every time we ever saw her! That's how we will remember her ! A fun, carefree, loving person :)

Kim and I went before the Hillsborough County Commissioners to lobby for HHS Class of 1976 to be able to stay at our school instead of going to Jefferson, it was the bicentennial and much was being made of it. Didn't work, but we had much fun!

I have very many fond memories of Kim. I had the privilege of living across the street from her for 6 years. She was always doing something crazy or silly. We would always cook together, clean our yards together, and we raised our boys together. My oldest daughter was always her favoriteKim said she was the daughter she always wanted.  She will be dearly missed by me and my family. Love you always girl!

I enjoyed spending class reunions with Kim.  My recent visit with her in NYC was very special.  I love reading her posts and pictures of NYC on Facebook.

You're always on my mind Aunt Kim... I was listening to music yesterday as I was cleaning house.  I decided to sit down and take a break. I'd been thinking of you all day and then that sinking feeling reminded me that you really were gone.  At that exact moment, the song "Blackbird" by Paul McCartney came on, and I got goosebumps from head to toe. I felt you there with me...as if you had placed your hand on mine, letting me know you were happy and at peace.  I will always love you and Aunt Kelly, I will miss you everyday and until the time comes when we're together on the other side, I will always cherish both of you for being my best friends...and the coolest Aunts ever! ❤❤❤  Your loving niece, Michele

May the Lord comfort family and friends at this time of sorrow. I recall Kim back at George Washington and she always had a smile and I believe those who were called home are smiling also in blessed eternity.

Wow...this news was shocking to me and my heart hurts for you, the loves of her life. It's been a long time since we were neighbors when I watched your family grow up and admired how close you all are.  I am very sorry to learn of the loss of Kim and send my love and warmest memories to all of you.

Rick, Dylan, and Conor, The Altieri family mourns with you. She was the light of our street. We would see her walking Tuxedo every day and would catch up on life in our talks. She was such a devoted mother and wife and you all know that her life revolved around you three. She was so proud of her sons. When we first moved into Devonshire Woods, there were only a handful of houses and she made it a point to come down and welcome us to the neighborhood and I will never forget that! You all are in our prayers........

Kim, You were such a sweet and loving person. You were just as beautiful on the inside as you were on the outside! 
You connected with everyone, no matter their position in life. We had so much fun at our 30th HHS class reunion. It was so special to go with you and Loren Lee for breakfast the next day. I was so looking forward to seeing you at our 40th HHS reunion. I will give Rick the pictures I took of the 2012 reunion we had at the Green Iguana in Ybor City, what fun! I am so shocked and sad to hear about Kim! I've known her since high school and we lived together for a while after high school.It was such a joy living together and having the adventures that we had together,she was always so much fun, aways with a smile on her face.She was admired by everybody for her beauty inside and out! I remember how she cried when John Lennon died,she loved the Beatles so much.Kim told me that she still had the Beatle album that I bought her when John Lennon died,I couldn't believe it!! Kim was one of the only poeple that would respond and fill out my animal petitions that I put on Facebook.She loved animals. I reminder the two cats that she had when we lived together, she loved them so much! Kim left us way too soon but hopfully she's with Kelly now,her sister that she missed so much.

Rick, Dylan and Conor, I am so sorry for your loss.  There are no words I can say to ease your pain.   I am thankful to have been able to call Kim my friend and extremely happy I got to see her in NYC in March. God Bless you all.
