

Vivió una vida bella y digna. Fue una mujer colmada de discernimiento, sabiduría, amor, bondad, y humildad. Siempre buscó el modo de ofrecer ayuda sin pedir nada en retorno. Su esposo, Samuel, la adoraba. Estuvieron casados 55 años hasta que el fallecio el 18 de agosto del 2012. Tuvieron 3 hijos- Elizabeth, Samuel, y José quienes también la querían mucho. A sus hijos les instruyó con integridad, lealtad, y compasión. A ellos les llenó de la confianza necesaria para vivir con la confianza para perseguir la vida con perseverancia y fervor contagioso.
María nació en La Habana, Cuba.
Una alumna excelente, graduada del colegio de medicina. Al llegar a los Estados Unidos continuó su carrera y tuvo el placer de trabajar en hospitales desde el estado de Nueva York hasta la Florida. Fue Directora del Departamento de Salud de Estudiantes en la Universidad del Sur de la Florida. Ella nunca se daba por vencida, sino que buscaba modos de continuo estudio y servicio.
A María le gustaba tocar el piano, tejer, especialmente frazadas para bebés, completar rompecabezas, cocinar para su familia, y servir a los necesitados en la iglesia. Participaba en retiros de damas y actividades para personas mayores. Le daba mucho placer tocar el piano para el coro. Fue directora en iglesias en Nueva York hasta la Florida. En toda iglesia donde era miembro, era directora del coro. Esto era un ministerio que ella consideró ser el de ella. María era una mujer de múltiples talentos que reflejaban el carácter y amor de Dios.
A María le sobreviven, Elizabeth (Glenn, esposo), Samuel Jr (Norma, esposa), José Andrés (Sandra, esposa). Nietas, Joliz, Crystal (John, esposo), Dianna, Alexys, Tatiana, y nieto, Xavier. Bisnietos, Christopher, Ezra, y Rio.
Maria Justina Castillo Anderson, also known as “La China, Mima, Tata, Abuela, Grandma, Doctora, Profe, la Doñita”, was born on September 26, 1934 and died on February 25, 2024.
She lived a beautiful and dignified life. She was a woman filled with discernment, wisdom, love, kindness, and humility. She always looked for a way to offer help without asking for anything in return. Her husband, Samuel, adored her. They were married for 55 years until her death on August 18, 2012. They had 3 children- Elizabeth, Samuel, and José who also loved her very much. She taught her children with integrity, loyalty, and compassion. She filled them with the confidence necessary to live with the confidence to pursue life with perseverance and contagious fervor.
María was born in Havana, Cuba.
She was an excellent student, she graduated from medical school. Upon arriving in the United States she continued her career and had the pleasure of working in hospitals from New York State to Florida. She was the Director of the Student Health Services at the University of South Florida. She never gave up, but rather she sought ways of continued study and service.
Maria enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, especially baby blankets, completing puzzles, cooking for her family, and serving those in need at church. She participated in ladies' retreats and activities for seniors. She took great pleasure in playing the piano for the choir. She was a director in churches from New York to Florida. In every church where she was a member, she was choir director. This was a ministry she considered to be hers. Mary was a woman of multiple talents that reflected the character and love of God.
María is survived by, Elizabeth (Glenn, husband), Samuel Jr (Norma, wife), José Andrés (Sandra, wife). Granddaughters, Joliz, Crystal (John, husband), Dianna, Alexys, Tatiana, and grandson, Xavier. Great-grandchildren, Christopher, Ezra, and Rio.
A visitation for Maria will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Brandon Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church, 513 East Clay Avenue, Brandon, Florida 33510. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 4:00 PM, 513 East Clay Avenue, Brandon, Florida 33510. The burial service will occur Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610.
