After many years of collecting angels of all descriptions and pigs with wings in memory of her years as a Past International Governor of Zonta International, Mary Alice Stoudenmire Gregory got her own wings on January 10, 2026.
Mary was born September 11, 1937, to Hilliard and Madie Stoudenmire in Uniontown, Alabama. She is predeceased by her husband Benjamin Franklin Gregory II and her brother George Stoudenmire. She is survived by her sister, Betty Katherine Geier (Stoudenmire), sons Benjamin Bolton Gregory II and Joseph Lewis Gregory and daughter Mary Gigi Gregory, grandchildren Rachel Gregory, JayPaul Gregory, Lydia Gregory Hubacz, and Noah Gregory, and Benjamin F Gregory and great-grandchild Maeve Hubacz.
Mary began her career as a physical education teacher graduating from Auburn University in 1959. Later, she got her Master’s degree from the University of South Florida in school counseling where she went on to work in middle schools and then in adult education, assisting people in the medical fields.
She also began coaching girls softball and went on to win the World Series in 1983.
Anyone who knew Mary knew she had her own way of doing things and everyone understood that it came from a place of love- and from a deep belief in doing it right. We all have our “Mary Gregory stories” , and if you would share your stories here they will be collected and published to fulfill one of her final wishes: to leave a record of who she was for her great-granddaughter to one day read.
Mary was a devoted member of Zonta Club of Tampa, a global service organization devoted to promoting women’s causes.
