Born and raised in Tampa, Merycer attended Hillsborough High School. Merycer worked with the Southland Corporation for 40+ years as a new employee trainer and store manager and to this day, insists that we buy our gas at the local 7-11.
Merycer loved hosting friends and family in her home and looked forward to her Thursday and Sunday card games with the many friends from the Northdale Owls. She loved decorating her home for every holiday, especially Christmas, going to church on Sunday mornings, playing Scrabble or Yahtzee, watching old movies on TCM, swooning over Bobby Flay and listening and dancing to the oldies, especially Elvis. Above all else, she loved her family. She loved spending time with her 2 daughters, Tammy & Terri, shopping at Macy’s and the Red, White & Blue Thrift Shop, going out to eat and going to the movies. She had special bonds with both her sons-in-law, Manuel & Tony, who always took her side in a family debate! Her 3 grandsons, AJ, Tyler & Jace, granddaughter-in-law, Cynthia, two-month-old great-grandson, Oliver and Tyler’s special girl, Teresita were the lights of her life. If there was spoiling to be done, Nana was on it! Nana made the best mashed potatoes and not a holiday event was held without the specific request that Nana make her special mashed potatoes with lots of butter!
Merycer (aka Sissy to many family members), loved going with her brother, Richard and sister-in-law, Brenda to the Hard Rock casino to play the slots and eat crab legs at the restaurant, prior to Richard’s passing in 2022.
She is preceded in death by her three brothers, Clarence, Harrison, Richard; mother, Ellis Seward; and father, Harrison Seward. Merycer is survived by her two daughters, Tammy (Manuel), Terri (Anthony); three grandsons, Anthony Jr (Cynthia), Tyler and Jace; one great grandson, Oliver; along with cherished family members and friends.
Besides her role as Ma, Mom, and Mother, she was Nana, Aunt Sissy, Aunt Merycer and Nana Lady to many. While she’s in a better place, there’s a hole in the hearts of many with her passing. She’s a hard act to follow.
A visitation for Merycer will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Creekside Church, 311 Newberger Rd, Lutz, FL 33549. A funeral service will occur Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 311 Newberger Rd, Lutz, FL 33549.
