Nellie Althea Cooper, age 90, of Valrico, Florida passed away on Tuesday February 5, 2019.
Nellie was born November 26, 1928 in Middletown, Connecticut, the daughter of Robert and Lillian Day. Nellie served in the army during the Korean War. Following her time in the service, she raised her two children and then returned to work and retired as a nurse with the VA Hospital system. She moved to Ocala, Florida, in 1996 and made many new friends. She was very active at Faith Baptist Church, played pinochle every week, called bingo numbers at the neighborhood's clubhouse, and made an absolutely fabulous meringue pie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Lynn Cooper. Survivors include her daughter, Debra R. Gillen; son, Richard Colpaert; granddaughters, Jennifer Magsig (Chris) and Patricia Gillen and great-granddaughter, Jessica Hallock. A graveside service will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
