Raymond William Cameron was born in San Francisco, CA on November 4, 1934, to Alexander and Catherine. The family moved to Tampa in 1938, which became his home. He graduated from Hillsborough High School. He married the love of his life, Betty Queipo, on July 6, 1956. He is father to four children: Ray, Jr., Debbie, Steve, Valerie. Steve went to heaven on March 26, 2010 and welcomed Dad home. Ray is “Papa” to 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren (so far), nephews, nieces and countless others who called him “Papa”. He is also survived by his brother, Jack (Gitti), in Arizona.
After attending some college, Ray began his career in sales of roof building materials, eventually managing the plant, and then opening and running his own manufacturing plant for a few years. Upon his “retirement” (he never did until last year) he began to work for Blount & Curry Funeral Homes. He worked with them for 20 years. He enjoyed the people with whom he worked and enjoyed serving families in times of bereavement. Ray had a deep and abiding love for people. He cared.
Ray’s element was being with his family. Doing whatever. His theme in words and actions was to be together, to love one another, to laugh, sing, pray, eat, drink, play, explore, dream.
In a word, LOVE. He would often call us to love the Lord Jesus Christ first, have an eternal relationship with God through Christ, and love one another. He would express his desire that as we loved being together here, he wanted all of us to also enjoy the best yet to come in heaven. Together. That would include all who knew and loved Ray. Don’t miss that gathering!
Ray was proud of his Scottish roots. His visit to Scotland in 2011 was a highlight of his travels. He would often be sporting the Cameron plaid. The Cameron crest displays a sheaf of 5 arrows bound together; the motto: Aonaibh Ri Cheile, Let us Unite. That is as fitting a motto for Papa as any. He drew people together. He modeled and urged us to set aside selfishness that would keep us apart, and always prioritize coming together.
And thus his legacy: Faith, Family, Forever – Together.
Until we are with you again Papa, we know you will be there to eagerly welcome us to the new, next best adventure, where the story never ends. Hallelujah!
