Mr. Roy M Wilcox

WILCOX, Roy M., 74, of Tampa, passed away Sept. 26, 2014. Roy was born July 7, 1940 to Monroe and Margaret Wilcox (deceased). Survivors include his wife Barbara N. Wilcox of 35 years; his sister JoAnn Hazel; daughters, LeeAnn Kaiser (Gene), Shari Martinez; stepdaughters Debbie Strawser (Tim), Cathy Tucker Hanson (Mark); grandchildren, Alex Martinez, Christine Martinez; and step grandchildren, Josh Hanson, Jessica Hanson, Michael Strawser. Roy was raised in Jackson Heights and fell in love with basketball. He graduated Chamberlain High School in 1959 and was recognized as the first highest Chief and served as President of his class. After numerous scholarship offers he attended University of Tampa. Following many different business ventures he found a love of advertising and owned Dewitt Advertising, Inc. Roy prided himself on his perfect attendance record as a member of the Downtown Rotary. He was President of Friends of the Park for over 20 years and made many contributions to the success of our county parks. He served as past board member of the following: Hall of Fame Bowl, Pro-Athletes for Christ, CABA, Krewe of Venus, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, Tampa Port Authority. Roy was active at Idlewild Baptist Church and served devotedly as an Usher and Finance Committee member. He also served many years on the Tampa Bay Baptist Association Board where he had a love of organizing the many golf tournaments and ensuring a good time was had by all. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 1st, 2014 at 11 AM with visitation starting at 9 AM at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd, Lutz, FL. 33548 followed by Graveside service at Garden of Memories, 7207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610.
