Selendieu Chostel was born on January 13, 1935, in Jean-Rabel, Haiti. During his life, he worked various jobs and in different positions within his community. He worked in agricultural, health care, education, as well as a reforestation agent, construction worker and security officer. Some of the positions he held had a profound impact on his community. For some time, he worked as a heath care agent and assisted in programs that combatted Malaria in his community. He worked with programs designed to increase adult literacy, helping people learn to read. Selendieu Chostel married his loving wife, Selamene Cherichel in 1960; 9 children were born of their union. In 1962 he left Haiti bond for Nassau, Bahamas to help support his growing family. He then, voluntarily left Nassau to reunite with his family. In 1980 he left Haiti for the United States, he traveled where the job opportunities would take him. He ultimately resided in Tampa, Florida, where he then had 2 more children. In 1998 he joined the seven-day Adventist church. He became a deacon of Bethanie SDA Church and was well-loved by the church members. He was hardworking, a man of his word and a proud father of 11 children.
Selendieu Chostel was preceded in death by his wife, Selamene Cherichel; sister, Julia; mother, Amelie Pierreval; father, Predelus Chostel. He left behind his children, Louis Chostel, Micheline Chostel, Jacques-Elie Chostel, Cantave Chostel, Germanie Chostel Danger, Rigaud Chostel, Rony Chostel, Lupena Laplante, Rolandy Chostel, Yollette Battiste, and Josalien Prophete; grandchildren, Rose-Cynthia Thelusma, Lamartine Chostel, Chancy Chostel, Isenolie Chostel, Rosemithe Chostel, Junie Chostel, Yoline Chostel, Anadieu Chostel, Edwin Chostel, Claude Chostel, Cunnie Chostel, Rigaud Chostel II, Beatrice Chostel, Bradley Chostel, Isaac Chostel, Elliot Chostel, Moise Danger, Hyanka Danger, Josue Danger, Jonathan Laplante, Gabriel Laplante, Jasen Laplante, Christie Chostel, Sophie Chostel , Kayla Chostel, Ashlande Chostel, James Chostel, Abdias Chostel, Makayla Crawford, Michael Crawford, Gabriel Battiste, Gaella Chostel, Zion Chostel, and Sam-Wordly Chostel; great-grandchildren, Blanca Chostel, Micheal Chostel, Samy Chostel, Victory Baltazar; brother, Modira Jean-Gilles.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Bethanie SDA French Church, 10401 North Florida Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33612, interment to follow in Garden Of Memories Cemetery, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Bethanie SDA French Church.
