Thomas Joseph Colmenares, 71, of Mooresville, IN, was released of all earthly ailments at 7:20am, on Monday, July 19, 2021, while in hospice care at IU Hospital West in Avon, IN. He was born on September 10, 1949, in Tampa, to the late Nicholas R. and Hilda (Perez) Colmenares.
Thom and his sister, Shirley shared in the traditional values of a devout Catholic upbringing and enjoyed a close, lifelong relationship. Relocating to Miami at the age of one and returning to Tampa at 14, he excelled in preparatory school and graduated in 1967 from Jesuit High School. An avid fan of the Florida Gators, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in ’72 and received his MBA from the University of South Florida in '82. Thom previously worked at Fidelity Investments, Coopers and Lybrand and Wang Laboratories, before relocating to Indiana in 1997; Thom deservingly retired from Eli Lilly in 2003 as a Human Resource Senior Manager Consultant. Falling in love with Patricia A. Scheer, Thom was united in marriage on December 20, 1987. He was most proud to sit in the Dad seat and raise their one and only child Nicholas R. Colmenares.
Gregarious and outgoing, Thom was a natural entertainer and he found his way through any crowd with a penchant for elongated storytelling carried on by his son, subsequently dubbed as "Colmenaresing" by exasperated friends. Finding solace in nature and a balance in life, his enjoyed playing on his employer's softball team, grilling out for friends and family, and vacationing with the family in the Gulf of Mexico. A treasured soul and kindred spirit, his light was given back its shine and in peace he passed from this world to the next. With questions that we don’t have answers to, there is hope with faith and love that stretches from Earth to Heaven.
Thom is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Scheer and son, Nicholas R. Colmenares of Monrovia; sister, Shirley J. Colmenares of Tampa; along with a host of loving cousins and friends that are near and far. The family invites you to join them in a Visitation held from 1:00pm until the Service begins promptly at 2:00pm, and a Reception to immediately follow interment, all at Blount and Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories/Myrtle Hill, 4207 E. Lake Ave. Tampa, Fla 33610, on Sunday July 25, 2021. In lieu of flowers please consider donating in Thom's name to your local Humane Society, World Wildlife Fund or Smile Train.
