

Jansen, Thomas J., 90, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Harry Jansen and Elizabeth Sparks Bonekamp. He was predeceased by his first wife, Grace Hoylen Jansen, mother of his four children and his brothers, James, Paul and Joseph. Thomas is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth Jansen; his children, Joan Krofchick (Donald), Peggy Bradley, Mary Crawford and Charles Jansen (Annette); sister, Irene Platt; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Thomas moved to Corry, PA as a child and graduated from St. Edwards Catholic School. He went on to attend Duquesne University for one year before enlisting in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Missouri and was present for the surrendering of Japan. After WW II, he attended Gannon College and Florida State where he graduated with a BS in pre-med and a Masters in Social Work, respectively. He was a Social Worker for the State of Florida and retired as a Hearing Officer for DCF. Thomas’s passion was baseball. He was president for Temple Terrace Little League for one year and was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rays. He also loved building model ships, doll houses and planes. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 9:30am – 10:30am at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood Chapel, 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618, followed by an 11am Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial to follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests giving to a charity of your choice in Thomas’s memory.
